Debra Ann (H) Green

Debra Ann (H) Green was born March 18, 1951, in Lawrence, KS and attended Lawrence High School during the turbulent era of the late 1960’s. She comes from a family of educators and was taught education is a priority. After graduating from Lawrence High in 1969, she attended the University of Kansas where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Minor in math, in 1973. After graduation, Debra was hired by the Newton, KS school district where she taught both English and math. In 1975, Debra returned to her alma mater to teach English and math. After a few years, she would return to the University Of Kansas and earn her Master’s Degree in math.


She was a cheerleader sponsor at Lawrence High for 12 years.


She received the Legacy Award while teaching at Lawrence High.


She taught for 34 years with 31 of those at Lawrence High School until her retirement, in 2007.

Debra was very active in her church, Lawrence Indian United Methodist Church, where she served as a pianist, treasurer, Bible & Sunday school teacher, and a Lay speaker.


She was a professional teacher in the highest regard. She had high standards, but she also had an open door policy. She touched lives in a positive nature and inspired students over many decades to do their best and never give up.


Debra passed away December 26, 2012. She will be missed by all.
