Ethan Smith

A lifelong Lawrence resident, Mr. Smith was born Nov. 8, 1934, the son of Ethan A. and Ruth Parry Smith.

He attended Lawrence public schools and received a bachelor's degree in business from Kansas University.

He was the Lawrence City Treasurer for over 20 years.

Mr. Smith and his brother owned Ethan A. Smith Moving and Storage from 1958 to 1964, when he became Lawrence city treasurer. Mr. Smith also was chairman of the planning commission in the early 1960s and was treasurer for the Douglas County Democratic Party.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. An active volunteer and former member of the board of directors for Headquarters Inc., Mr. Smith also served on the board of directors at the Ballard Center.
