Joe earned his BS from The University of Kansas in 1972. He is president of Weaver's Department Store (a Lawrence business for 150+ years).
He serves on the Boards of Directors of Douglas County Bank and the National Retail Association. He has served on the Boards of Douglas County AIDS Project, Froth-Friends of the Theatre, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, The Shelter, KU Continuing Education, Red Cross, United Way and Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence Education Achievement Partners, and the KU Continuing Education Advisory Board.
Joe Flannery has-served on the LMH Board of Trustees since September 2003. Flannery chairs the Finance Committee for the LMH Board of Trustees and serves on the Planning, Governance and Medical Staff Committees.
He served on the search committee for a new Chamber president and was on the committee to decide if Lawrence should have two high schools. He also served on the school councils of St. Johns and West Junior High while his children were in school there.
In 2010 he was one of the first class of 4 inducted into the Lawrence Business Hall of Fame.
