John is a retired healthcare executive recognized for transforming organizational cultures and advancing high-reliability, patient-centered care. A dedicated strategic thinker and accomplished team builder, John holds a Bachelor of Science in Labor and Industrial Relations and an MBA, providing an academic foundation for his professional achievements.

Over four decades, John’s leadership has spanned academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, and physician groups and associations. His hallmark has been connecting ambitious, long-term visions with immediate organizational needs, helping teams succeed in highly complex environments. A highlight of his career includes leading multiple international initiatives that assisted emerging nations in developing trauma and emergency medical services systems, including preparations for the 2016 International Olympic Games.

Importantly, John’s core skills were forged long before his ascension to leadership in healthcare. As a student at Lawrence High and the University of Kansas, he was a grassroots organizer, first as a student activist, then broadening his scope to include community and union organizing. This formative experience shaped his leadership philosophy and taught him three enduring principles:

  • Lead boldly and persevere—be fearless in doing the right thing, especially when challenges seem insurmountable.

  • Listen and empower—true power comes from people; understand their concerns and prioritize their interests always, even when you lack formal authority.

  • Build trust and “Find a way or Make One”—with the support of those you serve, nothing is impossible.

Now residing in the Phoenix metropolitan area with his wife Eve, children, and grandchildren, John enjoys cycling, listening to jazz and music of all genres, and cherishes time spent with his loved ones. He is deeply passionate about family history and genealogy and is presently writing two books. One chronicles his family’s multi-generational struggle from Reconstruction through the 1970s; the other explores unconventional pathways to leadership in today’s environment. His fundamental belief: Engage Every Generation – The Struggle Continues!
